Newcastle’s Men’s League began three weeks ago and is up and running once again for the duration of the summer, with a new format and 30 teams of two out on the course at Newcastle Country Club each Thursday night.
Men’s league has transitioned to a shotgun start after years of the guys going out to the golf course and starting whenever they would like. They now gather around at 5 p.m., sporting colorful golf shirts and lounging in their carts while they wait to learn which of the nine holes they and their competitors will start at. After holes are assigned, the carts tear off from the clubhouse in various directions and they all tee off at the same time.
“Instead of just coming out and teeing off, everybody comes out at five and tees off,” said Scott Beehler, director of the Men’s League.
