Federal agencies looking for long-term lease

The lease on the U.S. Forest Service office will expire in November, which left unknown the status of the Forest Service’s future presence in Newcastle. But any speculation can cease now that Tracy Anderson, district ranger for the Hell Canyon Ranger District in South Dakota, has told the Weston County commissioners that the federal agency is sticking around.

Anderson announced at the commissioners’ regularly scheduled meeting on April 3 that the Forest Service has received approval to move forward with leasing the building at 1225 Washington Blvd. for the short term.

According to Anderson, the General Services Administration still has to approve the lease for the Black Hills National Forest location. Once the GSA has given its approval, the Forest Service will begin formally working with the current landlord.
