Connie Filley represented Newcastle and the state of Wyoming well at the State Horseshoe Championship in Worland this past Saturday. Overall, Filley claimed her 26th state horseshoe championship by beating out last year’s Wyoming champion, but she also surpassed the women’s world record as the most successful female horseshow thrower of all time. Filley now holds more championship titles than any other female in the world.
Filley’s success in the sport of horseshoe pitching is paramount, as the sport is popular on the international level with 15 million participants in the United States and Canada alone, according to the National Horseshoe Pitching Association (NHPA). Filley was also recognized last weekend as a new member of the Wyoming Hall of Fame.
