The Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America, or FCCLA, from Newcastle High School has become greatly involved in the community over the past several years. Home economics teacher Liana Scribner started the chapter over 10 years ago, and the group continues to grow and increase the amount of community service its members provide.
Membership consists of 16 students whose activities focus around the family and how to strength the relationships within a family. Scribner said that membership is slightly lower than in recent years. She added that although the group is smaller, almost every member is involved in the group’s projects.
“The projects we do relate to family and consumer sciences, including culinary, textile projects and projects similar to a speech project on family-related issues,” Scribner said.
