Elected officials’ raise discussed

The Weston County commissioners are considering raises for elected officials, including the county attorney, assessor, clerk, district court clerk, treasurer, sheriff and possibly coroner and commissioners.

Elected officials, with the exception of the commissioners and the coroner, last received a raise in 2014 when their yearly salary, excluding benefits, was increased by $5,000 from $45,000 to $50,000.

At the commissioners’ April 3 meeting, Weston County Clerk Jill Sellers presented estimates for budgetary increases associated with $5,000, $10,000 and $20,000 raises for the main six elected officials: attorney, clerk, assessor, district court clerk, treasurer and sheriff, as well as potential increases of 20 or 30 percent for the coroner and the commissioners.
