When it comes to high school and middle school sports, spring sports season is as unpredictable as it gets. Claiming victory this week is Mother Nature with the announcement that both the Newcastle High School and Newcastle Middle School track meets are canceled.

“Our jump pits are still frozen, and the rest of our facilities are not going to be ready and safe to use. And the weather the rest of the week doesn’t look like it’s going to get much better,” said Mike Gregory, high school activities director, in an email announcing the cancellations.

He noted that he hopes the schools can reschedule the meets for a later date, if possible.

According to accuweather.com, Newcastle can expect between a coating to 2 inches on two different occasions this week.

The website says that there is a 46% chance on Tuesday that Newcastle will receive “a coating to 2 inches” and a 51% chance of little to no accumulation.
On Wednesday at about 3 p.m. Newcastle could see 1 to 2 inches of snow by 4 a.m. Thursday morning, according to accuweather.com.
