Nov. 25, 1956–March 15, 2021

Longtime Newcastle resident Gene Myrum passed away on March 15, 2021, at his residence in Cheyenne, Wyo., after a lengthy illness.

Gene was born on Nov. 25, 1956, in Newcastle, Wyo., to Orlin G. and Regina M. Myrum. His family moved around the region until they returned to Newcastle in 1968. The family attended Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Gene attended Newcastle Junior High and graduated from Newcastle High School
in 1976.

After high school, Gene began his apprenticeship as an electrician with City Electric in Newcastle. Gene also attended classes at the University of Utah where he was pursuing a degree in economics. Ultimately, Gene chose to pursue the path of a tradesman and became a master electrician working with City Electric and later began his own business, Newcastle Electric, where he continued until 2010. Gene was a gifted tradesman and took pride in the quality of his work and his customer relations.

In 2010, Gene moved to Cheyenne where he has since resided.

Gene served as a Weston County commissioner from 1988 to 1992 and was proud of his service to the community and the relationships he established.

Gene was preceded in death by his father in 1990, and his mother in 2019. 

He is survived by his five siblings, Steve (Pam) Myrum of Cheyenne, Kevin Myrum of Blackhawk, S.D., Patricia Myrum of Salt Lake City, Utah, Tom (Candice) Myrum of Tumwater, Wash., and Teresa Garcia of Port Orchard, Wash.

Services are not presently scheduled. A celebration of life and inurnment will take place at a
later date.
