MICHAEL JAY WILLIAMS

April 21, 1952–April 18, 2020

Our beloved Mike drafted his own obituary as follows:

Michael Jay Williams, 67, was a life-long oilfield cowboy living in Willow, Alaska. His passions were hunting, fishing, rodeoing, boxing, wrestling (Wyoming state champ), drilling, dancing and the great outdoors with his blue heeler dogs. Everyone who knew Mike knew where they stood with him because he would damn sure tell them. When informed of stage four cancer last fall, he refused hospitalization and treatments. Instead he went moose hunting. After a successful hunt, he returned home to Mike and Mert’s Deshka River Lodge in Alaska. He finished his cancer there on his own terms. THE COWBOY WAY.

He was born to Mickey and Barbara Williams April 21, 1952, in Walla Walla, Wash. They moved back to Newcastle, Wyo., in May of 1952 where Mike grew up. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Rae Williams; his father ,Mickey Williams; his stepfather, Bob Van Every; his grandfather Jay Mahoney; and several uncles. His mother is still alive in Wyoming.

He leaves behind three daughters from his first marriage: Bobbi Jo Williams, Billie Ann (Andy) Willis, and Carrie Dawn Janowski. His fourth daughter, Jessie James (Brendan) Maguire, and his only son, Wild Bill Williams, are from a current marriage of 36 years to Maureen “Mert” Williams. All are in Alaska.

As per his request, there will be no funeral. The family is planning a celebration of life this summer.
