MARJORIE ELIZABETH FRENCH

Marjorie Elizabeth French, age 97, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020 at Weston County Manor. 

Marge was born Jan. 1, 1923, on a farm near Dill City, Okla. Her parents were George W. Frisby and Helen Bonnell Frisby. She had one sister, Mary Jo Frisby. 

Marge worked for the Civil Service Commission in Washington, D.C., and Dallas, Texas, during World War II. She wrote to a soldier all during the war. When Albert “Jiggs” Wakeman came home they were married in Dallas in February of 1946.

In 1948 Marge and Jiggs moved to Kingfisher, Okla., to farm and raise their family. Marge worked for the same law firm as a legal secretary in Kingfisher for 42 years, retiring in May 1999. Jiggs passed away Feb. 1, 1998, one day shy of 52 years of marriage.

Marge married Lewis French in December of 1999 and moved to Mississippi. She dearly loved her family and her church. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She loved knitting and crocheting, winning many ribbons at the county fair. 

She moved to Newcastle, Wyo., in August of 2016. 

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jiggs; and her husband, Lewis. 

She is survived by her sister, Mary Jo McLerran of Cordell, Okla.; her son, Larry Thomas Wakeman of Duncan, Okla.; daughter, Ruth (Tom) Ralls of Newcastle; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from all over. 

A memorial service will be held in Kingfisher at a later date. Memorials and condolences may be sent in care of Meridian Mortuary, 111 S. Railroad Ave., Newcastle, WY 82701.
