In August, both Jennifer Bohn and Tim Carr were diagnosed with cancer, according to coworker Katina Varner. To help lessen the financial burden on them and their families, Varner will host a fundraiser with all proceeds to be split between the two Wyoming Honor Conservation Camp employees.

Bohn was diagnosed with informational breast cancer, more specifically invasive ductal carcinoma, Varner said. She explained that it is a fast growing cancer that does not respond to hormones or targeted therapies.

“She is doing chemotherapy and will have 12 rounds,” Varner said. “She is getting ready to go in for her third treatment in Arizona.”

Varner said that Bohn’s is at stage 3, which is not good, although the survival rate for Bohn’s specific cancer is 77 percent.

Carr was diagnosed on Aug. 8 with both brain and kidney cancer, according to Varner.

“He had three weeks of radiation for his brain,” Varner said. “Then, in September, they found out he had cancer in both his humerus (arm) and femur (leg) on his right side.”

She noted that Carr recently had surgery on his arm and leg to put a rod next to the bone. According to Varner, during surgery, doctors discovered that Carr’s arm was broken because of the cancer eating it away.

“He is now scheduled to have a kidney removed on Oct. 11,” Varner said. “There is a nine-and-a-half-inch mass on the kidney.”

Proceeds from the benefit, according to Varner, will be split evenly between Carr and Bohn and will aid them with any costs associated with the cancer.

The benefit will be held on Oct. 12 at the Weston County Senior Center, beginning at 5 p.m. It will feature a taco bar meal by donation, a cash bar and both a silent and live auction.

Auction items include several pictures and baskets, a quilt, two saddles and several other items. Tickets are on sale for $10 for a rifle that will be raffled off during the benefit.

Anyone with questions, donations or to buy a raffle ticket can call Varner at 949-0488. If she does not answer, callers can leave a message.
