Ertman removed as rep

In a surprise move at the Weston County commissioners meeting on Sept. 4 Commissioner Tracy Hunt made a motion to remove fellow commissioner Marty Ertman as that body’s representative to the Wyoming County Commissioners Association. And although Ertman said she was willing to resign as representative, Hunt insisted on making the motion.

Ertman said that she had “asked two years ago for someone to replace me.”

Commissioner Tony Barton questioned whether it was necessary to remove Ertman from the position if she was willing to resign, adding that he was unsure of the proper procedure.

But Hunt said that he preferred to have his motion stand.

“This is an expression of my frustration that a member of this Commission, in Ertman’s total lack of commitment to the Commission process and her exercise of poor judgment,” Hunt said. “I think that I would prefer to let the motion stand.”

He also noted that her resignation had not been tendered before his motion was made.

“It is important we make a statement, so I don’t want to rescind my motion,” Hunt said.

In seconding Hunt’s motion, Commissioner Bill Lambert said that he thought Ertman “had a hard time at times representing the board.”

“I think we need somebody down there to be an honest extension of this board.” Lambert said.

The motion to remove Ertman as the representative to the Wyoming County Commissioners Association passed on a 3-1 vote, with Ertman voting nay.

Each of the state’s 23 counties elects a commissioner from its board to represent the county. Commissioner Ed Wagoner volunteered to take Ertman’s place.
