Denis Wayne Benington was born Dec. 12, 1950, to Irene Robrahn Benington and George Benington. He passed away Oct. 8, 2022, at the age of 71.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Originally from Toledo, Ohio, he began his career as a pole climber for Ohio Bell. He then transferred to Florida wherein he worked his way up the management ladder with Southern Bell, Bell South, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and Avaya. He had a successful career as a financial manager for Lucent Technologies/Avaya at the time of his retirement when he was 48 years old.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his sister, Sandy Gerber; his wife of 30 years, Patricia Benington; and his son, Hal Benington.
He found love again and remarried 10 months prior to his death to Merriam Benington.
He was father to Gretchen Santoro (Chris), Patty Hollingsworth (David), York Hollingsworth and John Hollingsworth (James); grandfather to Alyssa Santoro, CJ Santoro, Adam Randolph, Bobbi McGrady, Josh Hollingsworth, and Kayla Donelson; great-grandfather to Skyler, PJ, and Mila. He also has a surviving brother, Larry Benington.
He spent his time as a sun bird in Palm Bay, Fla. He spent his summers at the family homestead in Newcastle, Wyo.
He was an avid lover of history and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life is to be held July 8, in Newcastle.
