 DANNY M. BOLIN

Sept 2, 1946–Jan. 25, 2021

Danny M. Bolin, 74, of Newcastle, Wyo., sadly passed on Jan 25, 2021. Dan was born to James and Vivian Bolin in Shenandoah,  Iowa, on Sept. 2, 1946. He was the youngest of four children.

Dan grew up in Coin, Iowa, on the family farm and eventually moved in to town after it was sold. He went to South Page High School where Dan developed a love for running and became an Iowa state cross country champion in 1964. They called him “Little Red” in the Omaha World Herald during his running career. He graduated from South Page High in 1964 as well. He went on to attend Peru State College in Peru, Neb., on a track scholarship. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 and another in education in 1974. He went on to get his master’s degree in technical theater from the University of Wyoming in 1983. He moved to Newcastle in 1983 and remained there living in the pines north of town. One of his fun antics was shocking people outside the classroom with the gruesome makeup he applied during his theater mini class with his middle school students. His students loved it too. He taught high school and middle school for a total of 25 years prior to retiring in 1999. He truly loved teaching and made a huge difference in this world through his students, many of whom said he was one of their favorite teachers. He often went the extra mile and tried to get each student to do their best. He was so very proud to have taught all those years.

Dan married his wife, Ruth, in 1973 and they had two daughters, Cassidy and Megan. He loved to go camping and even made a two-week family trip into Canada with the family’s little pop-up camper. He taught both the girls to fly fish, and that became a passion for them all. When Ruth was working long hours in the summers, he would take both the girls on outings to Flintstone Village, Reptile Gardens and numerous country drives. He loved the mountains and enjoyed the deer and other wildlife that would come onto the property north of Newcastle. Dan and Ruth took many cruises, visiting and enjoying numerous countries and meeting new people. Once Ruth retired, they began spending the winters in Fort Mohave, Ariz., in 2013. Dan loved the warm winters and it became an annual pilgrimage. Both enjoyed treks to Las Vegas, Nev., and Laughlin to see shows of all types, including Cirque, musicals, and concerts.

He sadly leaves behind his wife of almost 48 years, Ruth; his daughters, Cassidy (Ross) Tolman and Megan Bolin (Mike Beattie),; two grandsons, Connor and Xander; little granddaughter, Vivian; his three sisters, Sally, Patsy and Sharon; along with a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dan wished for no services, but a small family gathering is planned in the future in his boyhood home of Coin.

He was loved by his family and will be missed by so many. Sleep well, Dan.
