Another COVID-19 grant available

After receiving three grants for COVID-19 relief from the Foundation for the Episcopal Diocese and distributing that money to people and businesses in need, the Christ Episcopal Church in Newcastle has yet another opportunity to apply for more grant money, according to Janet Hutchinson, the church’s junior warden.

Hutchinson said she is not sure how much the grant is for, but the church recently received an email from the Diocese notifying it that more money is available. So, Hutchinson decided to reach out to the community to find out what the needs are, and she suggested that people nominate businesses and individuals who are in need.

“We kind of thought we should get ahead of the game,” she said. “We want to find out who we can help and what other needs there are.”

The church has already poured nearly $30,000 into the community through the grant money to help organizations such as FOCUS Inc., the Weston County Senior Center and local day cares who have suffered loss due to the pandemic and its effects on the economy. The same rules apply for the new grant — it must be used in the local area to help those that have experienced hardships related to the virus with provision of child care, food and security needs, and anyone in the vulnerable adult population.

If you would like to nominate someone or a business in need of this financial assistance or have any questions, contact Janet Hutchinson at 746-2628 or email her at She asks that everyone “prayerfully consider their nominations.”
