Church parking sparks discussion

Confirmation at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 19 W. Winthrop Street, attracts family and friends from near and far, according to the Rev. Tim Martinson, pastor of the church.

During the 2018 confirmation ceremony, several people received tickets for parking in front of homes near the church. Martinson approached the Newcastle City Council on May 7 to express concerns about an ordinance that makes it a violation to park on streets in the area.

“The ordinance states you cannot park in front of people’s homes without permission from them. Several people got tickets that night, some from out of town, one a priest from Gillette, with no warning,” Martinson said.
