Allyson (Ally) Cass recently returned from the Elks Regional Hoop Shoot in Denver, where she made 19 of 25 free throws. While Cass earned fourth place in the 12-to-13-year-old age division, the journey to Denver itself was quite the impressive feat.
Cass first won the local hoop shoot in Gillette, making 16 of 25 free throws. She then hit 15 of 25 at the district contest, also in Gillette. Cass put in her best performance at the statewide competition in Casper, missing just two shots of the 25. The competition
was tight at regionals, where Cass was bested by her three competitors.
Cass said she chatted with the other contestants a bit to be polite, but her competitive nature kept her focused on her goals. Although the tense atmosphere at the regional contest would be intimidating to most, Cass is already learning to focus on her sport and the individual task at hand.
