Expectant mothers throughout Weston County have the opportunity to participate in a number of programs through Weston County Public Health, as WCPH Nurse Michelle Sweet offers a number of services through Maternal Child Programs for mothers, babies, and families in any situation.
“It takes a village to raise a child…Sometimes new parents don’t have that support system and we can supplement that to a point,” declared Sweet, who asserted that the programs she offers are “really about supporting the mother and child” and are available to anyone throughout Weston County.
Under the umbrella of the Maternal Child Programs are both the Best Beginnings Program and the Welcome Home Program. Each program offers a different set of services aimed at helping new mothers make the adjustment to parenthood, but they can also be used by those who are expecting an additional child. In either case, Sweet said the programs can make changes brought on by the birth of a child easier on mothers, and provide essential support to ensure the best outcome for both the mother and baby.
